Help me win the Rebrick build challenge!

Post  sixf00t4 on Mon Jul 09, 2012 8:53 am

LEGO decided to roll out a build competition on their new beta site without much pomp and circumstance, and the result could be an easy win!
Voting is active now through July 16th. There are 3 prizes, and as of this writing, first place has 95 votes, second has 50, and third has 27. THAT'S NOTHING!

The biggest snag will be that you have to be registered to vote. The easy part there though is you can do a quick facebook account link, or even skip the email validation steps and go right to voting once you finish creating the account.

Here are the steps to follow:
1. Click this link and sign up with email or link with facebook - https://account.lego.com/en-us/InContext/SignIn.aspx?ReturnUrl=http%3a%2f%2frebrick.lego.com%2f%3fredirectfrommodallegoid%3dtrue&=redirectfrommodallegoid=true
2. Finish registration and click this link to get to my submission
3. Click the LIKE link on the right of the picture.

If I win, I promise to bring the prize to a pennlug meet up!

Okay, I've registered and "liked" yours, "Octopus Escape" -- although some of those other entries are pretty impressive in concept and execution.

Hmm... IIRC, I had seen the initial ReBrick contest call-for-entries, but there's no obvious link from the gallery back to it. Wasn't there a requirement than the octopus element be used somewhere?

Thanks! Some of the builds are great, you're right! That's why I think TLG went about this all wrong. They are trying to buy their community by offering these prizes, but they only got a dozen or so valid entries! The rules were silly (you had to either use their octopus or build an octopus) and a lot were disqualified for that, for photoshopping, for not putting it on a base plate, or for not building it just for the contest. With the following that LEGO has, they should expect the winning entry to get more than 100 votes. I think it's obvious that the leading entry isn't anything amazing to earn first place, and that's how you can tell this contest is going to be won by who can recruit the most people to vote, since TLG didn't have the community built to support it naturally.

EDIT: and you're noticing how bad the site design is too when you can't even navigate to the rules or the competition. I was exchanging emails with the staff about that already. There are currently 3 different ways to pull up entries to the competition, each one giving you different results. That's just confusing and silly.

I agree, very frustrating to try to navigate thru it and see all the entrees.

I think they caught on to the first place entry because he had over 111 votes this morning, but then I checked at noon and he was down to 70. Seems he's climbing back up pretty rapidly though...
