Brickworld Travel Plans

Post  Cale on Wed Jun 06, 2012 1:17 am

So with Brickworld only a week out we really need to sort out travel plans.

I will be driving the truck and trailer out. As of right now Tony S. will be taking a train out to Lancaster and I will be picking him up from the station at 7:30 Wed. morning. There is room in the truck for a 3rd person if they desire. Should we meet up some where and all caravan out together? When does every one want to leave after the event? I would like to stick around Sunday night even though it does mean a longer drive back Monday. Has anyone volunteered yet to take over the rooms from Mike yet. How many will be staying in a room and do we need both? I'll be needing a place to sleep. I believe Tony will be staying with family again this year so if my count is right that makes 5 needing a place to stay.

I will need to spend Wednesday night with you folks. This is because we get in too late for me to pick up a car. The rest of the time I will be with family.

I have a train ticket that will get me to Lancaster at 7:30 AM. I like the caravan idea, but that is not necessary if it will be difficult. It might be interesting to switch passengers between cars (Cale can get a little irritating after a while.) Very Happy

I can handle the rooms. I'm also willing to pay a bigger share of one room so I can have a bed.

I'll be catching a ride with Chris, Nate and Carter.

I do think a caravan is a good idea.

According to Google Maps, it looks like stopping in York would add about 30 minutes to my drive. I'm not ruling that out, but maybe we could try to meet at a rest stop along 76 instead?
Either way, we'll have to leave the Philly area around 5:30 or 6 to make it work (I can make that more precise when we pick a specific rest stop).

What's the total cost for each room?

Somewhat tangential, but this seems like the right thread.

I have a room for thursday/friday/saturday - will I be able to crash on the floor of a PennLug room Wednesday/Sunday nights? I don't take up much space and I'd of course be happy to pay my share for those nights, just didn't want to be presumptuous.

Also Chris mentioned to me that we may have an extra room - I have a buddy who's in need of sleeping space at the last minute; would there be an extra spot on the floor for him, or would someone know where he might be able to find a space? He's under 18 but I can vouch for him.

I think we still have two rooms (Rob will need to confirm this though) so we may be able to accommodate the two of you as long as no one else minds.

Yep, I got both rooms and you're welcome to stay in one. I'm not even sure how much they cost. Ask Mike T.

Looking at the meeting point options for Wed. I think this may be our best option.

http://www.paturnpike.com/geninfo/srvcplaza/blue_mountain.aspx

This will be the first service plaza Tony and I pass after getting on the turnpike. It's 1 hour and 16 min. from the train station in Lancaster to this plaza which should have us arriving there around 9am. Is this acceptable for meeting? Also Tony has been looking into options to avoid some tolls once out of PA and perhaps more importantly a route around the heavy traffic we normally hit in the Chicago area.

Also how much do each of us owe you for the rooms Rob and do you need us to pay you up front?

Sounds good, Cale. Google Maps tells me it will take 2 hours and 30 minutes to reach there from my house. I wonder how much that will change with traffic?
Philly gents, let's aim for you to arrive at my place at 6am.

Hmm. Actually, I don't know how much the rooms cost. I'll ask Mike T. However, I don't need the cash up front, so we can work out the math later.
