Hello all

Due to some space restrictions (Todd needs to maintain his 18ft isles) I have had to rework the layout plan for Brickfair one again. Every thing should still work in terms of tables so no problem there. I think I have every thing that needs to go on the plan. If there is any thing that is missing or if there is something that needs changed let me know.

Did anyone check to see if you need floor padding for the event?

The floor mats from Todd are guaranteed to go 1 deep around the inside edge of every section, but NOT a solid fill.

Well if we take our Yellow ones we wont' get them confused, but if you take our blue ones they need to be marked.

I thought Todd's were black? Either way I think we should take all that we have since Todd only has enough to do the perimeter. We'll just need to mark ours.

Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.

I can make some.. Rob how many have you made? And how many more and what type do we need to make?

So far I just have two straight and two T intersections. I'm going to start building more roads once I finish my last building tonight. I would say start working on more straight roads first. I'll do the other intersections first and then more straights.

I can try to make a section or two, do you have instructions I can follow from I've never made, but am interested in brick build roads.

Re: Brickfair 2011 Train Layout Planing

Post  rgb on Mon Aug 01, 2011 4:07 pm

I built some new street sections today. I'm up to 5 T-intersections, 3 straight sections (with the white stop line) and one L-intersection (for the end of the downtown).

Unfortunately I overestimated how much dark bley brick I have. I might be able to scrounge up enough pieces to do one more straight section.

To do the full length back street, we need 11 more straight sections if anyone can help build them.

I'm not sure if Cale's instructions are available elsewhere on the website, so I uploaded them here:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2245218/StreetStraightSection01.pdf
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2245218/StreetStraightSection02.pdf

At worst, we can shorted the back street. 6 sections will be hidden by buildings on the main street, so they could be done in tiles or using regular Lego roads on risers. (Ugh)

I made a straight road section, with a pothole in it. I only had enough bricks for one section.

Thanks. Did you run out of dark bley or other stuff? I could build sidewalks and supports, but I need more dark bley.

Thanks. Bring it along if you can. How many straight street sections worth do you have (I'm not even bothering with the manholes)? I can build the rest of each section today.

Re: Brickfair 2011 Train Layout Planing

Post  Cale on Wed Aug 03, 2011 8:57 am

Only one more day until the start of Brickfair. I think we have our Train Layout Plan pretty well locked in. Minor changes can be made on the spot as needed.

Thursday is the big set up day. Todd has said no MOCs are to be brought into the building until noon Thursday as they will still be setting up tables and other things and he doesn't want to risk damaging any ones models with that going on. However we can bring our tables in and start setting them up prior to that. Brian and myself are planing on arriving down there @ 10am with the trailer. This should give us a good head start on getting our tables set up for the layout. Any one who can help out would be appreciated. Please post here when you may be arriving so we can coordinate loading in.

There is a loading dock along the side of the building (if you look at the map on the website, it's the one where BrickFilms is). The chairs won't be setup yet, so we can bring things in that way. This is the loading dock that Todd has said was ok for clubs to use for loading in. Smaller stuff can probably be brought in the front doors. There will be coordinators walking around (they'll be wearing pink shirts) if any one has any questions.

If any one has any of the standard creator houses available to bring we could use them. We may have a few blank sections of the layout where we could use these to fill in.

Also if you have any green base plates available (32x32s would be very useful) please consider bringing them as we may have need for them on the layout. Make sure they are marked so that we can get them back to you at the end of the show.

Don't forget to bring any vehicles minifigs or other little details that help bring our layout to life. It's the little stuff that brings it all together.

Thank You

I had two ideas for filling in some space. One is a small air strip. I have a few small plane sets (including the plane from the Flying Mummy Attack) to put along it. The other idea is a stretch of abandoned, overgrown track. I could "age" the caboose from the Toy Story set and put on the abandoned tracks.

Cool. I have a few old grey road (not sure who they belong to but they wound up in my baseplate box if any one is missing them) plates we could use for a runway.

We need one more. Brian has one corner plus the center, I have one corner and I still have a corner from Tony.

We got a lot done today, but I think some people did not show that Todd was counting on. The place is shaping up. There will be lots of draped areas. So it makes the large volume feel like it is broken up into rooms.

I am excited by what this year is looking like. Hurry up and get here.

I have a Grand E as well and the Fire house to help fill out the back if you still want them. My whole family is down (9 of them) so I spent time with them today. I will be over tomorrow to help, sorry I wasn't able to help Thursday.

The display was fabulous and I enjoyed watching it come together (and helping where I could).

As we took it apart on Sunday, I looked for the two green baseplates I contributed (they each had two return address labels on them) but came up empty. If you find them among your stuff, please hold on to them until September (I won't be at the August meeting this weekend).

Thank you all for making it a memorable weekend. I've already signed up for next year!
