Everything of mine you already have will be there (port, subway, two cafe corner buildings) as well as the new port extension. Including Rob's radio station, that will make the entire port area 6x12 baseplates. The water area will need to sit on 3 30x40 tables, as opposed to the 2 30x40 and 1 10x30 it currently sits on.

I will be bringing the Snail Emporium (1 32x32), and Brick Park ( 3 wide x 2 deep 32x32) and can someone please make sure they bring my cargo container. (I think Nate has it) Anything else I bring will sit on the display, and not have a "footprint" of it's own. snail ONLY IF NEEDED will I bring Grand Emporium, Cafe Corner, or Fire Brigade. If you just want me to bring an xtra floor from any of those, just let me know.

Joel

How much do you want for them? I didn't think you would want to part with them. I would need all of them, a city dump should be atleast 2-3 baseplates, maybe more.

Your container is packed in with the rest of the port. That reminds me, my Pet Shop is also with Cale, I think, and is available for the layout.

Do we need more than 1 pet shop to be mixed into the town? I have one, just haven't opened the box yet.

I have no current plan for them, and all the projects I am working on will take up quite some time to finish. Let me look at the prices on bricklink and I will get back to you.

With the extra street in the back, we can probably use some filler buildings. The Green Grocer, Market Street and the other house in the Pet Shop set are probably fine to have multiples of together.

Post  Cale on Wed Jul 13, 2011 10:09 pm

This is the plan I've come up with so far. This is still a work in progress and not the final plan.

The odd ball shape is making placement of the larger stuff difficult, the wind farm in particular is a tough one and I'm not happy with where I have it now. I have not listed all the buildings in the downtown as the placement of them will be up to the PennLUG Urban Development Commission when on site.

As for the stock LEGO modulars so far we need one more Grand Emporium to complete the Grander Emporium. I have a Green Grocer, Market Street and Cafe Corner to bring and Nate's Pet Shop as well. If some one can bring the Fire Brigade that will complete the set. Preference will be given to MOCs if space is tight on the layout though.

If their are changes that need to be made or their are ideas for improvement please let me know.

Here's what I was envisioning for the back street:

We would need a couple more 20x40 tables and street sections though.

I also suggest moving the threshing scene to the other side of the bridge and making a larger farm scene in all of that extra space over there.

Lot's of space to fill in the layout. I can bring along some green and brown bricks and make a few small hills to help fill in the areas.

Re: Brickfair 2011 Train Layout Planing

Post  joshua sanders on Thu Jul 14, 2011 5:44 pm

After talking to Joel yesterday, I realized just how important actual dimensions of things were. Tamaqua station is actually 13 (32x32) baseplates long. It is four baseplates deep at each end. But in the middle extends back another two baseplates and that extended section is eight baseplates long. So I would need two small 20x40 tables along the other ones in the front...

Is it possible to make more of those tables?

I'm not trying to dampen your enthusiasm here Rob but we just don't have the roads to do what you want to do. I really did not want to build any more roads for a while but I'm already having to build more just to get to where I have things now. And we are already building 3 more 30x40s and 1 more 20x40 table than I had originally planed on and may have to build more yet just to fit Josh's monster of a train station in.

No problem. Just wish you would have said that sooner.

Once I'm done with this week's building, maybe I'll work on something industrial to fill in done of the empty space elsewhere in the layout.

Maybe we could just use road baseplates for the back roads? Just a thought, since they would be back farther, they wouldn't need to be brick built like our front roads.... unless ofcourse the problem is not enough ROOM for a back street, not just no built streets themselves? Question

How many brick built road sections would we need? I might be able to make them... If we only want straights and T's I definitely could make some. How many do you want?

I believe the back street would be 18 baseplates long. 4 of them are T intersections. One is an L-shape. I already built 2 Ts and 2 straights and I should be able to build a couple more (at least enough for behind City Hall).

We might be able to get away with not having street sections for the entire length. I'm mostly concerned with the around intersections. Streets directly behind buildings wouldn't be visible.

Another hack would be to to take the newer-style road plates and tile the sidewalks and raise them on risers. They wouldn't match the custom streets exactly, but wouldn't be too bad, especially if they're behind the main street buildings.

It sounds like from Cale, we don't have enough tables either. I could help pay for materials to build a few more tables, but if there isn't enough time or manpower, don't bother.

Re: Brickfair 2011 Train Layout Planing

Post  Cale on Fri Jul 15, 2011 9:44 pm

OK guys. I made some adjustments to the plan so we could fit Josh's station in and provide some more depth to the downtown. This is all pending approval by Brickfair but I think it will work.

I forgot to add the two extra 20x40 tables for Josh's station on this plan. I'll correct it in the next version.

We can add another 20x40 table on the backside of the down town (and drop the two 10x30s on the end) so that the whole long side of the town is an extra 2 32x32 baseplates deep. However I do not have nor am I able to build the roads to fill this space. If you guys want to do this you'll need to work out who can build them. If you want to do a trolley line across the back let me know. We have a third trolley we can run and I can put together an ad hock NXT controller to run it fairly easily.

Any blank spaces not covered by base plates are still open to fill. The bottom right corner next to the rail yard though may need to be used for train over flow. With Nate, Josh, and myself bringing trains we may need the extra space for parking.

Looks great. Thanks for helping accommodate my crazy grand plans. I don't think we should bother with another trolley line this time. I was thinking of having one ofmy buildings on fire with police and fire trucks in front of it, and that would block a trolley.

I can build at least the remaining intersections. Anyone else who can help with straight streets is welcome too.
