New Hasbro "KRE-O" construction toys

Post  P_Thorne on Tue Jun 14, 2011 6:31 pm

The market failure of BTR ("Build To Rule") in 2003 wasn't enough for Hasbro, so they've gone and created another modular interlocking brick construction system, KRE-O.

Take a close gander at the $60 Optimus Prime set -- the Kmart site gives you "magic lens" zoom on the four pics. You might expect every maker of clone bricks to have 2x4 plates, but there are elements that look suspiciously like Hasbro simply prototyped everything in System.

Also, the injection-sprue mold-flaw ... thingies ... are highly apparent.

Great idea it's a shame they won't last, amazingly poor quality. I do like the 1x2 plate with rounded corners though.

I just checked out the directions for one the transformers & in order to switch to the robot mode you have to take it apart & rebuild it. They made a transformer out of cheap blocks that doesn't transform.
