Lego Education and Windmills

Post  Brickadier General on Tue Jun 15, 2010 5:34 pm

Today I received an email from Lego Education that was sent to those subscribed to their updates. This one was really interesting, as it reminded me of the club's efforts of making working Wind Farm windmills that Lego Education could use. That all kind of fell apart, but read this (from the aforementioned email):

Come See Us at ISTE!

At this year's International Society for Technology in Education Conference, June 27-30, in Denver, LEGO® Education will be debuting its latest in renewable energy resources!

The new Renewable Energy Add-On Set will take center stage in Booth #632 with multiple hands-on workshops combining the add-on with our LEGO MINDSTORMS® Education NXT system!

In addition, in-booth workshops for WeDoTM Robotics and the TETRIXTM by Pitsco building system will also be offered every hour, on the hour!

Drawings for $25 gift certificates will be held after each workshop, so be sure to stop by for a free hands-on demonstration and a chance to win!

We will also be registering all booth visitors for a FREE NXT set and software package! Stop by the LEGO SmartTM kiosk to register and help us build the next LEGO Smart city!

If you are attending this year's conference in Denver, be sure to visit Booth #632 for the latest in product information and classroom creativity!

Not able to attend? Track the status of the LEGO Smart city build and hourly winners on our Facebook page!

This was the picture in the message:

So the windmill lives on. Smile

I see the new rumored 4 wide motor has made it's debut. But what is that other NXTish looking thing?

According to the description, it's an energy meter, so I guess it measures output? It also comes with a solar panel and generator.

The solar panels and capacitors are fun to play with. We actually had one of our windmills running off a 60 watt light bulb for a while. Too bad we couldn't stabilize the tower part. Project for another day...
