BrickMagic 2010 Thread

Post  Brickadier General on Mon Feb 08, 2010 6:40 pm

Official Website

I don't really need to say much more about this than what is written in the announcement forum, but I figured I'd share with you a little tidbit of information I learned today.

BrickMania kits will be a sponsor at the show, and each paid registered attending will receive a free limited addition BrickMania kit (I'm assuming something micro-scale). For those not in the know, BrickMania, makes custom lego sets, mostly military themed, although he has some castle stuff.

And of course, we cannot forget the special rose event kit.

I will leave this topic open for anyone else to express interest, ask questions, and whatever else fits in here.

I am registered for BrickMagic. How many of us are also? Since most people registered have hidden their info, I can't tell. Only 14 of the 37 registered show up on the website... so it only lists Cale, Joel, and myself from PA. Is anyone else registered, or planning to? Question alien

I'm registered but haven't paid yet, so that's my guess as to why I'm not showing up on the list.

My settings left me "hidden," but that should be fixed now.

My wife has taught me to look at alternatives when traveling. I found that the Hyatt Place, which is literally across the parking lot, is charging $71 a night for 2 double beds that weekend. That price seems to include all taxes (sales, occupancy). If someone wants to share a room with me at half that price, please let me know. I am planning on booking this week.

Maybe it's me and it's late and I'm tired, but how do we register to come down as an exhibitor with the group? Evie and I are attending leaving Thursday and coming home Monday. If there are enough of us staying at Tony's hotel, I am certainly interested in saving a few dollars, though Evie and myself will probably want a room to ourselves. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

These are certainly less than ideal economic times and I can't begrudge anyone for wanting to save some money. And $14 a night over several nights is nothing to sneeze at. But I'd like to point out that very often at these type of events that take place in hotels that the use of the various ballrooms and such is often tied to how many rooms the hotel fills that weekend. The convention usually makes a deal with the hotel promising that a certain block of rooms will be reserved and the event gets use of the convention rooms at a vastly reduced rate or even for free if the reservations are high enough. Brickworld does this with the Westin in Chicago, Brickfest did this when it went to the Tysons Sheraton in 2006 and 'm pretty sure BrickFair did it with the Sheraton in 08 and 09. Not making the room numbers can cost the event more in the end.

This being a brand new event and one and one so closely tied to Brickjournal I feel obligated to support the event as much as possible. So I'll be staying at the Hilton.

Is there any thing like a product code or anything we need to add when we book our room at the Hilton so we can get in with the PennLUG block? I agree with what you are saying and if they don't meet some kind of quota on rooms there maybe additional charges to exhibitors in the future.

A list of things I can contribute:
For the Modular town standard:
2 brownstones (cover area of 1 32x32 stud baseplate)
Mid-sections from Market Street, Cafe Corner, and Green Grocer

Houses:
Plantation Home (covers 1 large gray plate)
Japanese Home (covers 2 large gray plates)
Rancher + 2 Split level homes (covers an area of 1 32x32 stud plate by 5 1/2 32x32 stud plates)
Church (the front of the display is 2 32x32 stud plates in length, and it's 1 1/2 32x32 stud plates in width)

Vehicles:
1960s Batmobile
1960s Batboat
Hershey Trolley
Ambulance
School Bus
Ecto 1
BTTF Delorean
1948 Tucker
Hippie VW Van
USPS Mail van
3 or 4 misc. small 4-wide vehicles

Also IMPORTANT CALL FOR BRICKMAGIC VOLUNTEERS:

Like a lot of events, BrickMagic needs volunteers to make for a smooth running event. For details on what you can do, go to the BrickMagic site, place the mouse cursor over "home," and click on "contact us." Then just ask what you can do. It's as easy as that. I'm writing this on behalf of Joe Meno. I said that he should post something in the PennLUG forums about this, since he was still looking for volunteers, but he's really had a lot on his mind the past few weeks, so I figured I'd mention it myself. Thanks!

I had that issue, too. I guess you could wait and see what happens or maybe contact the publisher of BrickJournal, as I believe he is directly involved in the event. I'd say shoot Joe Meno a message but, like I said, there was a situation that recently came up where he probably has a lot on his mind right now, so I don't know how soon you'd hear back from him. I think you can still email him at admin@brickjournal.com.

I would like to contribute to the display. I have an Ice Cream shop (modular building style) that is 1 32x32 baseplate, and also an Urban Courtyard that is 1 32x32 baseplate. I would like to have them next to each other, as I am still working on the second floor of the Ice Cream shop (used as a design studio / apt that overlooks the Urban Coutyard). Ice Cream Shop and Urban Courtyard

I also have a few cars / truck to contribute as well as my SUV and Camper.

I know it isn't much, but I'm still a rookie Laughing

I'd like to contribute some city buildings too: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rgb/sets/72157621907541757/

They need backs, but I'm working on that. I can bring them with me to Saturday's meeting.

BrickMagic falls on a weekend I usually have my son, but I might be able to swap weekend with my ex, in which case I could make it.

Every little bit counts toward the big picture. You don't need to bring your own cityscape to play with us. Very Happy

Change of plans. I will not be helping out with the BrickForge booth, as Kyle's wife decided to make the trip, so they're not short on help. I still stand by what I originally committed to bring, and I will be able to help with set-up/maintenance/gabbing. Smile

Oh yes, and this will be one of the last Brick Events I'll be doing before I head off for China. I was accepted into the program, so now I'll be running around like a chicken with my head cut off preparing for that...

I'm doing BrickMagic for sure. I'm afraid BrickFair is up in the air, as I'm still unsure when my plane leaves for the program. Orientation doesn't begin until mid-August, though I originally thought it was toward the end of the month. I can't even remember when BrickFair is.
