looking to join in a few months

Post  Cpt. Gingerbeard on Fri Feb 21, 2014 7:15 pm

Hello Everyone,

I grew up outside of Philadelphia but I am currently on Active Duty in the Army stationed in Mississippi. I should be retiring at the end of May and my wife and I will be moving back into the Philadelphia/Lehigh Valley area. Knowing this is the nearest LUG I was hoping to be able to join PennLUG to continue to enhance my building skills.

I got back into Legos back in 2010 when I got back from Afghanistan as a means to relax. At first I was skeptical it would help me relax, but was amazed at how it enabled me to get my mind off of the stresses of redeploying. I originally joined SEALUG, in Seattle, once I realized how quickly my Lego collection was growing and that I wanted to learn more building techniques. Since getting back into Lego, I have been focusing on City and Trains, with all the trains being 8-wide from Eastern Railroads.

If anyone has any advice for me as I get ready to move into the area please let me know.

Kirk

Welcome Kirk,

Thank you for searching us out. We look forward to meeting you. I am from the York area, so I'm not sure I could be of much help with the suggestions for where to move in the Philly / Lehigh Valley areas. Possibly some of the other members that are in those areas might be able to offer suggestions...

Thanks

Welcome Kirk

I'm from York as well so hopefully one of our numerous Philly members can chime and help you.

As for city and trains you'll be in good company. We have several talented train and town builders in our club and a thriving train layout we display regularly at shows.

Do you have a Flickr or Brickshelf gallery?

I do have a MOCPAGEs account, search for Chessie System Steam Special or Pennsylvania Railroad R1 and you should be able to gain access to my other builds. the forum wouldn't let me post the link . Hopefully this link will work and show some of my older work, I haven't posted in a while. Currently most of my stuff is packed for what I am hoping is my impending move, but I should have one more post of a PRR 2-8-0 if i can ever get the photo up loader to work.

The one creation that I am very happy with is My PRR R-1. Its a little brother of the GG1 that never saw much use. I am sure some of the more experienced builders will have ways to make it better but i have been keeping my collection small knowing the Army would move me again so pieces are somewhat limited (until i gain easy access the the KoP Lego store Very Happy ). I wanted to build a GG1 but in 8 wide I was having trouble figuring out how to make the wheels and motor work together. Because of this, i figured the little brother would work out well.

Please let me know what y'all think and fingers crossed I'll be up in May/June
